Robert Kemp Skinner, Jr., son of the late Robert K. Skinner, Sr. and Martha R. Harvey Givens, was born on June 4, 1943, in Mount Pleasant, Delaware. He departed this life on April 29, 2017, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Delaware.
Robert attended the former 120C School, Louis L. Redding and later Salesianum Catholic High School for Boys, where he graduated in 1962. In April 1963 he married the late Alice Lorraine Brown, and later that year the late Kim Regina Skinner was born.
Robert entered into the United States Air Force in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1969. He lived in Wilmington, Delaware the majority of his adult life and worked at several jobs. Later he realized working for someone else was not what he wanted to do, so in 1970 he enrolled at Delaware State College (now University) where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in only three years. He then was offered a position with Blue Cross Blue Shield, and later he was promoted to a position in New York City, where he commuted daily. He later went on to work for All State Insurance Company for ten years, establishing and building his clientele to eventually open his own independent Agency. When the opportunity presented itself he opened up Bob Skinner Insurance Agency with Nationwide Insurance and Casualty Company. He was recognized for top sales in the district for five consecutive years. Robert was also able to sell mutual funds after passing the Series 7 stock market exam. For nearly 30 years he worked in the insurance industry. Robert had to walk away from the insurance business when his health changed, causing him to undergo a cardiovascular bypass.
