Anna Mae Irving-McNair, was born July 2, 1947, in Elizabethtown, Bladen County, North Carolina to Susie and Harrison Irving.  At 71 years old, she departed this life, peacefully in the comfort of her home in Middletown, Delaware, surrounded by her loving family.

She received her early education in the public school system of Elizabethtown, North Carolina.   After graduating high school, Anna met the love of her life, Thomas McNair, whom she married; they resided in New York City.  Anna began her family and adjusted into motherhood in Bronx, NY.

Anna achieved her Home Health Aide Certification because she had a love of caring for people.  She started her career with the Central Civic Home Health, where she worked for twenty years.  Anna decided to relocate to Delaware to be close to her children. She began a new career with the Colonial School District as a School Bus Aide, where she was employed for 15 years.

She was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Williamstown, NJ, where she served in various organizations in the church.

Anna enjoyed gardening, knitting and spending lots of time with her grandchildren.  She would always welcome her nieces and nephews when they came to visit and spend time with her. Anna loved to read and write poetry.  Her desire was to write a book one day.  

In 2017, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Allen McNair; siblings, Mary Cowan, Jimmy Irving, Angie King and Edna Irving.

Anna leaves to cherish her memory 5 children, Christopher (Chris) Allen McNair, Lisa Ann Campbell (Benjamin), Michael Anthony McNair, Anitra Tiana Clemons (George), and Allan Bryce; 6 grandchildren, Darryl Corbett (Tiffany), Tunisia D. McNair, Ruben Lopez, Jordan McNair, Daniella McNair, and Mikayla McNair; 3 great-grandchildren, Terrence Corbett, LaDarion Corbett, and LaCora Corbett; 2 sisters, Georgianna Burton and Betty Cash (John); she also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, friends and many who were blessed to interact with her. “Anna Banana,” as she was affectionately called by her family, will surely be missed!

A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00am, Thursday, May 8, 2019, at Congo Funeral Home, 201 North Gray Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware 19802. There will be a viewing from 9:00 am to 11:00am.

Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, Delaware 19720.
