Barbara Jean Greenfield Grant was born in Wilson, North Carolina on November 14, 1938, to Rufus and Reva Greenfield. Her father a shoemaker and her mom a homemaker, moved to North Philadelphia, PA. She was 1 of 12 children in the Greenfield Clan. Bobby Jean, as she was named, grew up in the Philadelphia School District and graduated from Simon Gratz High School, where she changed her name to Barbara. She loved music from a small age so much she later obscured a job at one of Philadelphia's famous landmarks, the Uptown Theater.
We were told she went to school with Philly's own Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and sang background vocals for them from time to time. She later moved to New York where she started a profession in the Dry Cleaning business. She worked in that field for over 40 years. On August 24, 1974, Barbara married her love Vietnam Veteran, Lander William Grant...in 1975 they welcomed twins, and later moved to Newark, Delaware to raise their family.
Lovingly, she leaves behind 4 children, the oldest Robert Greenfield of Philadelphia, PA, Tracey Greenfield Jordan of Wilmington, Delaware, Karana Grant Rice and her husband Bret Rice of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kareem Greenfield Grant and his wife Dina Grant of New Castle, Delaware; two brothers-in-law, Abraham Grant and his wife Nita Grant and Alameen Grant of Brooklyn New York. She has 15 wonderful grandchildren, Scottie, Daoud, Tatiana, Tiffany, Tanasia, Dominic, Terrielle, Tevona, Tevin, Christopher, Taylor, Keyanna, Lorenzo, Johnathan, and Sage. She also leaves 13 great-grands and one on the way; 4 siblings, Evelyn Greenfield, Charlotte Wilson, Larese Nuble (Reese) and Clarence Greenfield; along with over 100 nieces, nephews, and greats.
