Donald Cornelius Knotts “Donnie,” passed away August 17, 2018, after a brief illness. Donnie was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Edward Knotts, Sr. and Irene Harvey Knotts. He accepted Christ at an early age, and for most of his life had attended Simpson United Methodist Church, the Knotts Family house of worship. He was also an active member of Ezion Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, located in Wilmington, Delaware.
He earned a masters degree in special education from Villanova University and completed doctorate level coursework at Temple University. He used these skills to teach special education, and later became an administrator. He retired from service after 35 years, his last job as principal of Jennie Smith Elementary in Newark, Delaware. He continued to educate youth post-retirement, working part-time at The Neighborhood House, a program that supported at-risk youth.
Donnie leaves to cherish his memory: Daughters Melzetta Knotts Williams and Regina M. Knotts of Crofton, Maryland and Newark, Delaware, respectively; son-in-law Willie “Vince” Williams; a grandson and his “buddy” Vincent “Brandon” Williams; one surviving sister, Regina Knotts Nix of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, and a host of loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, and long-time friends.
His Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Simpson United Methodist Church, 907 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19804. where the Alpha Phi Alpha Omega Service will begin at 1:00 pm and Family Visitation/Tour Display of Life will begin at 1:30 p.m.
