Obituary

George Marvin Witcher, Sr. son of Ruben Witcher and Geraldine Nell Jackson, was born August 29, 1944 in Pennsgrove, NJ.  He transitioned this life peacefully surrounded by his loving wife on Thursday, November 7, 2019 in Regal Heights Rehabilitation Center.  He was 75 years old.

He received his early education in the public schools of New Jersey and graduated from Trenton High School in Trenton, NJ.  He later attended Goldey-Beacom College.  In February of 1962 he enlisted in the United States Army. In December of 1965 he was honorably discharged.

George worked as a welder for many years with Zalea.  He later became a cook at Wilmington Hospital, the Dupont Country Club and Sodexo. "Marvelous Marvin" as he was affectionately called in the rock-roll music industry, finally pursued what he loved, promoting  music concerts in the tri-state area from 1968-1972. George joined Wilmington Chester Mass Choir in the early 70’s and began his love for the gospel world. He began co-hosting a local TV show, "Going Back To The Old Land Mark" in 1985 with the late Rev. Gus Hill and in 1988 he started Gospel Expressions until 2010. He also was a booking Manager for Jay Caldwell and The Gospel Ambassadors for over 35 years.

In October 22, 1977, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Carolyn Stanley.  He was a very loving, devoted and caring husband and father.  He was such a great person and friend to all those who knew him. He was his children’s first teacher, he taught them about God, how to be loyal, to be unapologetically their selves, he was fun person who always took a family vacation yearly.
