Hezekiah Garlic, age 83, was born on May 12, 1936 in Piles Grove, New Jersey to Hezekiah Garlic, Sr. and Beatrice Garlic. He departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2019, in the New Castle Rehabilitation Center.
Hezzie, Poppy and Tea, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, received his early education in the public schools of Woodstown, New Jersey and graduated from Woodstown High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955.
He was employed by BF Goodrich for more than 20 years. He was a longtime member of Greater St. John Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware.
Hezekiah loved to cook and bake. He enjoyed sweet tea, ice cream and potato chips. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
In addition to his parents, Beatrice and Hezekiah Garlic, Sr., he was preceded in death by three children, George Linwood Pulliam, Hezekiah Jerome Garlic and Linda Garlic, and his siblings, Paul Garlic, James Garlic and Lawrence Garlic.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Marie Garlic; his daughter, Doretha “Shelly” Davis; son-in-law Rodric; daughters-in-law, Teressa and Laverne; six grandchildren, George Pulliam, Michael Pulliam, Elizabeth Pritchett, Josh Pulliam, Rashawn Davis and Rodric Davis (Renny); 16 great-grandchildren, George Pulliam III, Nandie Pulliam, Gabby Pulliam, Nadia Pulliam, Amira Pritchett, Ra’Niyah Davis, Amiyah Davis, Ryder, Omair Fletcher, Londyn Davis, Angel Foreman, Trey Davis, Michael Pulliam, Nisa Davis, Larenzo Davis and Bryson Pulliam; siblings, Joseph Garlic (Hazel), Madeline Jones, Edward Garlic, Edwin Garlic, Barbara Lewis, Evelyn Cook and Alvin Garlic (Ida); brothers in-law, Mack Pulliam (Juanita) and Wesley Pulliam (Ruth);sisters in-law, Mary Alice Brown and Hattie Pulliam; longtime friends, Charlie Robinson, Abraham Harmon, Andrew “Andy” Burton and Jewels Wills, and a host of Nieces and Nephews.
His Celebration of Life Service will be 11 am on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Mother Union AME Church, 701 East 5th Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19801; with a viewing from 9:00 – 10:45 am.
His burial will be 2:00 pm on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware 19701.
