James E. Cooper was born in Hemingway, South Carolina to George and Mary Cooper on March 21, 1955. He departed this life on June 10, 2019.
He received his early education and attended high school in the public school system of Hemmingway, SC.
James worked as a maintenance man at Meyers and Meyers for 15+ years, he really loved working for them. He also worked as a contractor for 20+ years, doing maintenance, as a painter and an all around man.
He enjoyed watching Steve Harvey and his Westerns, especially Gunsmoke. You could find him singing and dancing at every barbeque, James was truly the life of the party. He was an avid Dallas, Cowboys football fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary; siblings, Willie, Ruby Lee and Rosa Lee.
James leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Yvette Keys (Andre) and Michael Cooper; grandchildren, Donald Wilson, Michael Wilson and De-Zyre Wilson; 1 great-grandchild, Kodi Harris; siblings, Willie James Ford, George Cooper Jr. (Harretta), Maryann Julius (Jesse), Bobby Cooper (Loretta), Eddie Cooper, Christine Cooper, Pastor Louise Evans and Frank Cooper (Veronica); his companion of 21+ years, Lucretia Rutherford and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Congo Funeral Home, 2317 North Market Street, Wilmington, DE 19802. There will be a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 am only.
His burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19805.
