James DeShields was born on May 23, 1944, in Pocomoke City, Maryland to the late Edna Wise and George DeShields. He departed this life on Sunday, August 4, 2019, in Christiana Hospital.
He was president of the residents counsel at Compton Towers when he lived there, and also he became president of residents counsel at Governor Bacon Health Center, where he last resided.
Prior to his illness, "Jimmy", as he was affectionately known, was a member of The Glorious Full Gospel Tabernacle Center under the leadership of Chief Apostle Patricia C. Williams and the late Bishop Tyson E. Williams. Jimmy was ordained as a Deacon in the ministry and along with his wife, they were active in the day to day upkeep of the church. For quite some time, he also aided in the leadership of the Men's ministry alongside of Bishop Tyson E. Williams, who Jimmy called, "Co-Pastor". Jimmy could always be found helping around the church with cleaning and maintenance. He loved his church and his pastors. Jimmy and Karen came to the church everyday and worked tirelessly with Chief Apostle Williams to fulfill the vision of the church. Some of their assistance also included; feeding and clothing the homeless and also helping "Co-Pastor" with his Friday church dinner sales. Jimmy was a premiere example of a servant for the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Deshields.
James leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Geraldine “Gerri” Cropper (Alexander), Bernice Corbin and Norma E. Cooper and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
