James D. Petruccelli, Sr., was born July 17, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware and he departed this life unexpectedly Monday, December 17, 2018, at his home in Greenville, Delaware.

James grew up in North Wilmington and graduated from Concord High School in 1976.  He studied Opera at the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts. 

He sang at Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington for 15 years and performed in plays at the Candlelight Dinner Theater, Longwood Gardens with the Brandywiners, and at the Guild Hall.  He was also a soloist at a host of weddings.

His professional life included the family business, Wilmington Lawn Mower, Petruccelli Investments and co-owner of Petrucon Construction.  He cherished his time with his children and was proud of his new grandson, James, III.  He had coached football when his son played for St. Mary Magdaline’s Grade School, and also had coached baseball at Naamans Little League.  He performed in several plays with his daughter, Amber.  He was the biggest football fan of his son, Jimmy, through high school and college.  He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers and a season ticket holder for almost 40 years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Dewey Beach Delaware.  He was devoted to his wife, Helen, and he loved entertaining a host of friends. 

He leaves to cherish his precious memory :  his loving wife of 36 years, Helen Gallo Petruccelli; son, James D. Petruccelli, Jr. (wife Rikki); daughter, Amber M. Petruccelli; grandson, James D. Petruccelli, III; parents, Ralph and Rose Petruccelli; brothers, Matthew, Felix “Phil” (wife Donna), and Ralph, Jr. (wife Sue), one sister, Angela Pullella (husband Frank); brothers-in-law, Frank Frabizzio (wife Eileen), Samuel Frabizzio (wife Mary Ellen) and Joseph Gallo (wife Denise); several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of  friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 27, 2018, at St. Anthony of Padua, beginning at 12 Noon, where viewing will be from 10:00 - 11:45 AM.  Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware 19805

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of James D. Petruccelli to:  Ministry of Caring, Inc., 115 E. 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801
