Jean Butler Harley was born on December 10, 1946, in Chester, Pennsylcnia, to Mr. Lonnie Butler and the late Ms. Louise Keno. She was raised by her stepfather, the late Frank Keno. Jean was received into Glory on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was educated in the Chester Upland School District, and graduated from Howard High School in Wilmington, Delaware in 1965. Jean married the love of her life, the late Albert Harley, in April of 1966. From this union they had one son, Rodney Harley. After Albert was discharged from the Army, he and Jean resided in New Castle, Delaware and then Wildwood, New Jersey. Finally, they settled in New Castle, Delaware. Jean helped her husband, Albert, in many of his entrepreneurial endeavors. She also worked at other companies and retired from Avon Corporation in Newark, Delaware. After retirement from Avon, she worked for the University of Delaware. Jean started her early Christian guidance as a child at Bethany Baptist Church in Chester, Pennsylvania, under the Reverend Daniel A. Scott. Later in life, she and her husband joined New Hope Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware, under the Reverend late Tommie Brown. Jean was a pleasant and kind person who was always happy and joyful, and she had a heart of gold. She was happiest when she was caring for her husband and son. On many days you could find Jean helping neighbors by taking them to the market. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert; her mother, Louise; her stepfather, Frank; and her brother, Wilbert Butler. Jean leaves to cherish her memory: one son Rodney Harley; cousins Donald, Francine, Barbara and Rhonda Hawkins, and Rudy Knox; sisters-in-law Dorothy McCoy, Sandra Smithers (Joseph), Shirley Brown (Robert) and Mary Harley; her best friend Shelia Hyland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
