Obituary

On the morning of May 25, 2019 at the Wilmington Hospital, the Lord called our dad and friend Lynwood Joseph Simmons home to his resting place.

Lynwood was the youngest child born to the late Elijah Simmons and Margaret McCauley. His sister Cynthia Huebanks-Castle also preceded him death.

Lynwood Joseph Simmons was born on December 11, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA. He also received his education in the Philadelphia Public School System where he graduated in 1967. Upon graduating from high school  Joe then enlisted into the United States Army where he served his country beginning in 1969.

After Joe’s tour of duty he worked several jobs to support his family by making glass, fork lifting, and becoming a  Seg’ Captain. Joe was also the assistant secretary for Sunshine Committee and also the Tenant Council at his current living building Parkview Towers where he served coffee and donuts on Saturday morning.

Joe was also baptized and was a strong believer of God. Joe also loved to play cards and beating people while playing pool. He also had a heart of gold, where he was always looking out for the tenants in his building by going to play their lottery numbers, going to the grocery store, and making sure that they received their meals in the box.

While continuing his life, Lynwood Joseph Simmons was married to Pearl Simmons and Rose Ann Garrett who preceded him death. He also had a sister Cynthia Huebanks-Castle whom he loved to stand up for and protect that also preceded him in death.

Lynwood was also known and loved by many as Joe and by his street name Blade.
