Manuel A. Lopez, son of Aixa Roman and Tomas Lopez, was born February 26, 1976, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Some of you recognize him as Manny; others as Topi. He departed this world on March 8, 2018. Though he has departed, he is in a better place and forever in our hearts.
Manuel was family, friend, father, son, spouse, barber, drummer, and much more. There was never a dull moment in his presence. He attended Howard High School, where a handful of people may have created memories with him. In later years, he furthered his education in Cosmetology. We all know him as the spiffy barber he was. Manny loved what he did. He was so passionate about his work, especially with his clippers and his famous straight razor designs.
In his life of wonders, family was a given to his life. Given the blessing of being a father, he created three beautiful lives, two daughters and a son. Once married, a bigger family and more happiness came together as one.
Manuel was a talented, wild soul. He enjoyed playing the drums and listening to music. He gave drumming lessons at the church. His loving character allowed him to help others in need. He was approachable, a good listener, and he gave good advice. Manny loved being in the kitchen. His favorite meal was arroz blanco con chuletas guisadas. Some of his favorite snacks were corn nuts and microwaved honey buns with peanut butter on top.
One of his hobbies was collecting fish; he always had fish tanks filled with colorful life. During the hot summer weather, he took pleasure in walks through the Brandywine State Park. Meanwhile, when the winter season came, he enjoyed sliding down hills of snow in the park. Manuel was a funny man. He never missed an opportunity to crack a joke or say something to make everyone smile and laugh.
Manuel was preceded in death by his father, Tomas Lopez. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Elizabeth Torres; daughters, Tyara Haslam and Kassandra Lopez; son, Manuel A. Lopez, Jr. “Nemo;” stepchildren, Carolina Gonzalez and Antonio Gonzalez; his mother, Aixa Roman; stepfather, Jose Colon; brothers, Tommy Lopez and Josian Lopez; sister, Mirian Lopez; best friend, Julio Livingston; and many other family, loyal customers and friends.
