Marjorie Canby Wright Scott, a longtime resident of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Monday, the 5th of June at Faulk Manor Nursing Home. Marjorie was born on February 6, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest daughter of William and Mary Wright and youngest sister of the "Wright Girls" that included Bea, Mahala, Sarah, and Marjorie.
Marjorie received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Virginia State University. It was also at Virginia State where she was initiated into her beloved sorority; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Later she would become one of the five charter members of the Wilmington, Delaware Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Marjorie continued her education at New York University and before long received her Master of Education Degree.
Marjorie married Clarence B. Scott "Zackie" on Christmas Eve 1944. They remained married for over 50 years until Zackie's death in 2002. Marjorie taught elementary education within the Brandywine School District until her retirement in 1980.
She was a long-standing , devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she served in the Finance Ministry. She loved her church.
Marjorie loved traveling, her cat Zig, playing bridge with friends and volunteering with various charities including: Ronald McDonald House, Girl Scouts of America, and St. Michael's School & Nursery. Marjorie had a wonderful smile that could light up a room, was very loved and will always be remembered.
