Melvin L. (Chicken) Wing was born to Rosalie and Ernest Wing Sr. and Charles E. Boyer on May 4, 1950 and entered eternal glory on May 4, 2018. He was blessed to live for 68 years.
He received his early education in the Public Schools of Wilmington, Delaware graduating from P. S. DuPont High School. His work ethic was developed at an early age starting with working at Hanna’s Gas Station, Colonial Dealership and finally working for the State of Delaware where he retired after 30 years of service.
Melvin was a devoted husband to Betty Hawkes Wing; loving father of Keenan Wing, Sr.(Dawn) and Aaron Wing, Sr.(Marcella); and wonderful grandfather to Keenan Jr (Chanelle), Iesha, Darius, Pierre, Jr., Aaron, Jr. and great-grandson Kyrin. He received his caring nature by being a loving brother to Gloria Lewis, Constance and Patricia Wing, Maurice Jackson (Barbara) and Ellen Henderson. He was preceded in death by his brothers Charles (Bubby) Wilson. Ernest Wing Jr and Dennis Wing, Charles, William, Richard Boyer and sisters Zetta White, and Tina Boyer.
“Chicken”, as he was affectionately called, was very active. He was a founding member of the Cobra Social Club, a baseball coach, an Umpire, and an administrator of BHW Catering. Once he joined Ezion-Mount Camel United Methodist Church he used these skills and work experience to be an active member of the United Methodist Men’s group of the church. His life was complete; his spiritual, family and social needs were met.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, 2 children and their wives, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service 7 pm, Friday, May 11, 2018 at Ezion-Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 800 North Walnut Street, Wilmington, DE 19801; viewing 5-6:45pm only. Interment 10am, Saturday at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
