Raphael Gregory Mangrum was born on December 11, 1958 in Wilmington, Delaware to Mary Martha-Ann Mangrum and the late Charles Edward Mangrum. At the age of 60, he passed away quietly at home surrounded by his loving family.
He received his early education and attended high school in the Wilmington public school system. He was an entrepreneur and the sole proprietor of WADI Enterprises. Fareed Jamal Wadi, was the name he gave himself years ago, but his family and friends simply called him Wadi, and he carried that name with pride.
Wadi enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a caregiver, driver’s ed instructor and a childcare provider who would keep his nieces and nephews all summer long. For a short period of time, he raised his step-grandchildren. He loved people and took care of anyone that needed help. He made his home or wherever he resided a boarding house, providing shelter for people in need of a place to stay. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Briscoe Mangrum; his daughter, Nyesha Cunningham and his three brothers, Charles Mangrum, Virgil Mangrum and Edward Mangrum.
Wadi leaves to cherish his memory: his two daughters, Tabrina Coates (Eric) and Ji’Nisha McIntosh; his grandchildren, Ja’lonna McIntosh, Malaysia Green and Kameion Mitchell; his mother, Mary Mangrum; siblings, Sarah Saunders (Michael), Raymond C. Mangrum, Dorothy “Sheila” Mangrum, Jacqueline Morales, Ben Mangrum (Tondra); sister in-law, Anna Mangrum; two devoted friends, Joanne Howard and Pierre Smith and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His Celebration of Life Service will be 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Congo Funeral Home, 2317 North Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19802. There will be a viewing from 4:00 - 5:45 pm only.
