Ruth Josephine Patterson (aka) “Sister,” was born July 6, 1945, in Easton, Maryland to the late Henry Steven Fountain and Anna Belle Johnson. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
She received her education in the public schools of Ridgely, Maryland. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Oliver W. Patterson, Sr. and from this union Oliver W. Patterson, Jr. and Lorraine Patterson were born.
Mrs. Patterson moved to Wilmington, Delaware with her family in 1968. She became a Domestic Goddess for her family. She ran a no-nonsense household. She liked everything neat and in place; you better not have moved anything and not put it back in the right place, because she definitely noticed!
Mrs. Patterson loved sending her husband off to work with a good lunch and making sure her children were up and ready for school. When everyone was off to work and school she started her day by looking to soap-operas while either ironing, sewing, washing or her daily dusting. When we returned home, there was always a hot meal waiting for us (TV dinners were our favorite).
She loved listening to music and dancing. Her favorite pastime was sitting in the dining room playing her 45 & LP records on the stereo and singing and talking to family and friends about old times. When her favorite son would come on the radio, she would blast up the volume and sing just as loud as the volume. She loved to laugh and to be around her family and friends.
Mrs. Patterson leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Oliver Wendell “OP” Patterson, Jr.; her daughter, Lorraine “Rainie” Patterson; grandson, Darius Broadneck; granddaughter, Zhane Thomas; great-grandchildren Gabriel and Legend Cole; son-in-love, Anthony Fountain; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends
She was preceded in death by seven brothers & sisters Henry Fountain, James Fountain, David Fountain, Robert Fountain AnnaMae Johnson, Pauline Wilkerson and Geneva Hollis.
