Deacon Wayne Evans, Sr., was born December 27, 1938 in Wilmington, Delaware to the Late Dorothy Evans and John Evans. He went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2019, surrounded by his loving wife.
Wayne received his early education in the Wilmington public school system and attended Howard High School. Wayne worked over 44+ years as a polisher and finisher at General Motors and retired in 2007.
He met Gertude Hankins and they were married in 1991; they raised 5 additional children. He had 8 children from his previous marriage. He joined Apostolic True Church Temple, Inc. in 2005 where he served as a deacon. He loved reading the Word of God and speaking about the scriptures, praying, and worshiping the Lord.
He enjoyed watching TV and keeping up with the news and politics; MSNBC was his favorite. He was a great singer who loved listening to gospel music. His favorite pastime was shining his car; he hard waxed and polished his vehicle. He was a sharp dresser; he liked to look good.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Marva Collins and Gloria Evans and a grandmother Laura Thompson.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 29 years, Gertrude Evans; his children, Renee’ Jones (Fernando), Marlon Jones, Wayne Evans, Jr. (Ellen), Sharon Sharpe, Terrance Evans, Lionel Evans (Barbara), Crystal Christy (Robert) and Sylvia Evans; 5 additional children he raised, Joe Hankins, Ronald Hankins, William Staats, Cornelia Staats and LaKeisha Ayers; 24 Grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, a loving and caring pastor, Bishop Allen Fields, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His Celebration of Life Service will be 9:00 am on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Apostolic Temple True Church of Christ Inc., 215 Main Street, (Stanton), Wilmington, Delaware 19804. There will be a viewing from 7:00 – 9:00 am.
His interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2200 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, Delaware 19720.
