Earl Mason, age 94, was born on January 22, 1926 in Dunn, North Carolina to John and Tilla Mason. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.
Earl received his early education in the public school system in Maxton, North Carolina. He went off to start a career in Culinary after high school. He was employed by the Radisson Hotel of Wilmington, Delaware, and he retired in September of 1993.
In 1949, Earl was united in Holy Matrimony to Ida B. Little, and from this union, Gladys, John, Orlando, Adrian, Carmen, Nathaniel, Gwendolyn and Darrell were born.
Earl was a member of St. Daniels United Methodist Church in Chester, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed playing cards with his sons, going to the movies, listening to music, and he really enjoyed dancing and boy could he cut up a rug. He had an outgoing personality and was such a fun-loving guy. He was an excellent cook and knew no one could cook as well as he could. Most of all he was an excellent father who truly and unconditionally loved his family.
In addition to his parents, John and Tilla Mason, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Omar Roberts; his brothers, John Walter Mason, Levenson Mason, Daniel William Mason and James Willie Mason, and sisters, Gladys Wright, Leanna Douglas, Mildred Douglas and Dorothy McCreary.
Earl leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 70 years, Ida B. Mason; 8 children, Gladys Evans, John Mason (Irma), Orlando Mason (Lydia), Adrian Mason, Carmen Mason, Nathaniel Mason (Rochelle), Gwendolyn Gibbs (Joseph) and Darrell Mason (Sharanda); 1 brother, Willie Bobby Mason; 1 sister, Mary Mclaughlin; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His love and friendship were cherished by all who knew him.
His Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 am on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at St. Daniels United Methodist Church, 315 Edwards Street, Chester, Pennsylvania 19013; with a viewing from 8:00-9:45 am only.
His burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, 1000 W. Ridge Road, Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania 19061.
