LaVonne M. Cooper of Wilmington DE was born to the late Harry and Alice Gardner. She departed this life on March 17, 2020.
LaVonne devoted her life to looking out for the often forgotten. After working many years at Blue Cross Blue Shield she decided to follow her true calling, working with the inner city youth. She was asked to be the program manager for the grassroots program, Creative Grandparenting, linking generations by having our community seniors mentor our inner city youth. The program was based out of Church of Our Savior in Wilmington Delaware, where LaVonne was a member for many years. LaVonne also worked as a program director for Eastside Charter School where she started the Bell program, providing music lessons to the students through the use of bells. Before retirement, LaVonne worked at the Wilmington Senior Center developing programs and activities for the attending seniors.
LaVonne loved to cook and was known for her awesome pies. She was the family link and recognized the importance of her matriarch role. She didn’t say much but could give you a look that let you know she meant business.
LaVonne leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Barry Cooper; her children, Denise Washington, Devon Washington (Camille), Qualaya Cooper, LaNette Montgomery (Maluki), and Jamente Cooper (Colette); her grandchildren, Kiana Coleman, Luke Montgomery, Cassandra Cooper, Shannon Montgomery, Christian Cooper, Peter Montgomery, Abigail Cooper, Nathan Montgomery, Nagia Cooper, and Jacob Washington; sisters, brothers, and a host of family and friends.
