Lamont Fitzgerald Matthews, a life-long resident of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away suddenly on July 11, 2020 at the age of 54. Lamont was born on January 20, 1966 to Victoria Matthews and Eddie Goodwyn.
Lamont received his public education from many schools in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Newark High School and volunteered for service by joining the United States Army in 1986.
Lamont was a devoted companion to Verna Jean Dorsey for nineteen years. He enjoyed listening to Marvin Gaye and spending time with his family. Lamont would ALWAYS have a beer in his hand when you saw him. He was a crafty handy man that could fix anything for a small fee. He enjoyed hanging with his friends. Lamont was always trying to crack jokes with his friends and family. He was gentle, caring and a respectful person. Lamont was a spiritual person. Lamont will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
Lamont was predeceased by his grandparents, Pauline and Bernard Matthews.
Lamont is survived by his companion, Verna Jean Dorsey; his parents, Pauline "Victoria" Trice (James) and Eddie Goodwyn; his sisters Evette Tucker (Randolph), Rochelle Matthews, and Crystal Hammond; his brother Levi ""Sean" Matthews; steo-sister Monique Lloyd; his nieces, Corteze Matthews and Randi Tucker; his nephew Richard Matthews; great-nieces, Ja'Nyla Tucker and Ja'Siya Matthews, and great-nephew Joshua Matthews.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at Manna Christian Fellowship, 733 E. 22nd Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
