Rohan Martin White "Mark"

September 26, 1969 ~ August 26, 2019 (age 49)

Rohan Martin White, self designated alias Mark, was born on September 26, 1969 to parents Stephanie White and his late father Lascelles White. He was the first child who was pre-maturely born at 6 months weighing 4 pounds 6 ounces at Princess Margaret Hospital in Morant Bay St. Thomas, Jamaica. He attended Morant Bay High School before he migrated to New York in 1984 with his then two brothers and his sister.

He attended Bushwick High School where he earned community service by tutoring other students who needed academic support. Rohan was an exceptional student and he excelled in Mathematics. He transferred to Franklin K. Lane High School where he graduated earning his High School Diploma in 1988.

Rohan became a father to his first child Rohan Martin Murray in 1990 with mother Dawn Murray. As a young father, Rohan built a strong foundation with his son. He then became a father to his two girls Nayanka Bucknor and Shantevia Bucknor in 1990 and 1992 with Melissa Bucknor.

As the eldest brother to four siblings, Courtney White, Christopher White, Rushell White and Jermane Beckford, Rohan held his position as head sibling and a leading role model. He spent many nights supporting each with academic lessons. While growing up in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Rohan was the solution to most problems in the neighborhood. If anyone had a problem, they would always count on him to advocate whether verbally or otherwise on their behalf. Let’s just say neighborhood bullies met their match. He delighted in being a problem solver.

His leadership and love for humanity lead Rohan to build many positive relationships in his life. He was mentored by some of the best businessmen and learned various skills. His mother was one of his first teachers. They had a very close relationship and from her, he learned patience, empathy and love. From his father, he learned perseverance, drive and the secret to preparing fine cuisine.

Rohan realized one of his life dreams and became Executive Chef and Owner of Bull Bay Caribbean Cuisine in Wilmington, Delaware in 2017 where he resided with three of his children. Rohan prided himself on ensuring that everyone who walked through the doors of the restaurant had an exceptional experience and more importantly, delicious food.

He loved to play pranks on his friends and family. If you slept over at his house, you were guaranteed to wake up with your face filled with flour that he sneakily poured on you while you slept. He would be somewhere with a camera to take a picture of your reaction when you woke up. With his nephews, he would pour syrup over their faces and they would get him back by pouring hot sauce all over his fingers as he touched his face when he got up. He once blocked his only sister on Facebook for three years when she wished her “big sister a happy birthday.” It took three years of advocacy from their friends and family for him to unblock her.

He would celebrate his wins with his cousin and Head Chef at the restaurant Sherwayne Kenton with his famous BOOM! When he mixed the perfect jerk sauce- BOOM! Melt in your mouth jerk pork- BOOM! Fiery hot scotch bonnet pepper sauce for his famous pepper shrimp-BOOM!

Rohan’s maturity as a father to his son Tristan White, 6 years old, supported him in his love of fatherhood. He always shared that he wished he was the same father he was to his other children as he was to Tristan. In his final years, he balanced running a successful business with being a father to his children, grandfather, brother, community leader, activist, son, cousin, uncle, nephew and brother. He loved his family and friends and would often sacrifice himself to ensure that everyone else was fine.
