Jane Lambert

Jane Lambert (Janie or Sister), daughter of the late Mother Martha Mae Adams and Henry Adams, was born March 6, 1931. She departed this life on March 13, 2019 at Wilmington Hospital surrounded by family.

She received her early grade school education in Savannah, Georgia and later came to Delaware where she graduated from Howard High School. For a period of time in her early 20s, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at which point, she changed careers.  Jane went on to work at Wiltex Co. where she cut imported fabrics for over 40 years. After retiring from Wiltex Co., she went on to work for several years in childcare at the Bellevue Community Center in Edgemoor, Delaware.

In the 1950s, Jane was united in holy matrimony to Albert J. Lambert. She then welcomed her daughter, Marlene Marie Benson. Marlene was blessed to have grown up with Jane’s sisters Barbara Dacus and Diane Thompson all of whom preceded her in death.

Jane was a member of Ezion Fair Baptist Church where she served on the Henry Gospel Choir along with holding the position of church Treasurer. She also was an avid traveler. She loved going to the Bahamas, Philadelphia and the beach with her family and friends. Some of her favorite places to frequent regularly were Atlantic City, Delaware Park, and Brandywine Race Track. Jane could always be counted on to provide the sweat potatoes at a family gathering, manage several children at one time and decorate a beautiful Christmas tree with angle hair. She was admired for having a fierce sense of style and was often complimented for being well dress no matter the occasion. Lastly, Jane was a big proponent of education. In to her 70s, she continued to take computer classes and encouraged everyone to strive for higher education. In Jane’s words, ‘If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.’
