Marie Garlic

April 26, 1936 ~ June 13, 2020 (age 84)

Marie Pulliam Garlic, daughter of the late Frank and Annie Pulliam, was born April 26, 1936 in Wylliesburg, VA.  She peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 13, 2020 at Wilmington Hospital.

Marie received her education in the public school system of Wylliesburg, VA.  She moved to Delaware in 1957 and worked various jobs before retiring from Holiday Inn after 28 years.  Marie accepted the Lord as her savior and lovingly served him.  She served at Greater St. John Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Drewey Richardson for many years before rejoining New Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  She loved Pastor Smith and all her church family.

On September 15, 1962, Marie married Hezekiah Garlic, Jr. and from this union they were blessed with George (Linwood), Hezekiah (Jerome), Linda, and Doretha (Shelly) Davis.

Marie was a fun loving person and known for her sense of humor, always telling a story and being the last one on the dance floor at parties and family functions.  She was a “Fashionista,” known as the Foxy Lady always sharp and matching from head to toe.  She never went out without her jewelry, earrings, necklace, and rings on every finger.  She made sure her clothes, jewelry, shoes, and purse always matched.

She was a member of the Wilmington Senior Center as well as the Salvation Army Senior Center.  She enjoyed attending and serving as a volunteer for many years.  Marie looked forward to travelling on bus trips, shopping, bingo, playing cards, and enjoying time with friends.  She especially liked going to the “New York Store.”   When at home she enjoyed working in the yard, decorating her house, and going to yard sales.  She looked forward to Monday Night Wrestling cheering them on with her sister Hattie, talking on the telephone, watching game shows, and being with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Hezekiah; sons George and Hezekiah; daughter Linda; brothers Elgie and Samuel; sister Ruth, and granddaughter Charlene.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter Doretha (Shelly) Davis; granddaughter Elizabeth Pritchett whom she raised; son-in-law Rodric; daughters-in-law Teressa and Laverne; siblings Mack

(Juanita), Wesley (Ruth), Mary Alice and Hattie; brothers-in-law Joseph (Hazel), Alvin (Ida), Edward and Edwin; sisters-in-law Evelyn, Madeline and Barbara;  five grandchildren,  George, Michael, Josh, Rashaun, and Rodric (Renny); sixteen great-grandchildren, George III, Nandie, Gabby, Nadia, Amira, Ra’Niyah, Amiyah, Ryder, Omir, Angel, Londyn, Trey, Michael, Nisa, Larenzo, and Bryson;  special friends, Virginia, Ella, Hazel, Mamie and Louise Townsend; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friiends.

Her Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 4412 Washington Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802, where her viewing will be from 10:00-11:45 AM only.
