Obituary

Wendell M. Stephens, age 79, was born September 12, 1940, in Centerville, Illinois to Albert and Estelle Stephens.  He transitioned this life at home on Friday, January 31, 2020.

He received his early education in the public school system in Centerville, Illinois. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Centerville, Illinois.  He attended Lincoln Universtiy in Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 14,1962 and received an honorable discharge on August 13,1968.

Wendell enjoyed fishing and working on computers.  He was a wonderful handyman, building and doing carpentry.  He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles football fan.

In addition to his parents, Albert and Estelle Stephens, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Marion Stephens, Letaska Stephens, Dorothy Halsey, William Stephens, Harry Stephens, and Thurman Stephens.

Wendell leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Maggie Ann Stephens; his daughter, Erica Gildersleeve (Jake); 3 grandchildren, Jahsan Gildersleeve, Jessiah Gildersleeve and Joshua Gildersleeve; 1 great-grandchild, Mylo White; siblings, Connie Stephens, Frances Blackshear, Richard Stephens, and Raymond Stephens; in-laws, Lucille Banks (William), Nancy J. Glasper, and Nettie Mae Purnell (Frankie); adopted sons, John Harris, Joel Harris and Avery Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at St. Paul UAME Church, 3114 N. Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19802, with a public viewing from 9-10:45 am only.

His burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware 19701.
