At Congo Funeral Home, we take pride in our involvement with our community and local charities. We have set up some very unique community programs in which we hope you have a chance to participate.

“The Congo Hour”

Every Sunday at 8pm

Developed and hosted by Trippi Congo, "The Congo Hour" is a TV program that airs every Sunday at 8 pm on local cable Channel 28. Trippi and his co- host, Waynna Morton, talk about local issues and interview members of the community, including local entrepreneurs, church leaders, and children involved in the popular Student of the Week segment.

We are pleased with the popularity of the show and encourage you to tune in each week. We encourage people in our community to appear on our show for interviews or to promote your events. Please email us at congofuneralhome@aol.com if you would like to appear on our show.

Student of the Week

Each week Trippi Congo chooses one to three children to earn the honor of "Student of the Week" based on academic achievement or significant improvement in schoolwork. On a morning prior to the show, the lucky winners and their friends join Trippi for breakfast and then a ride to school in our white stretch limousine. On the following Sunday night show, Trippi interviews the students and their family and presents their award as Student of the Week. This program has proven so successful that Trippi has received several community recognition awards and has received media attention in both our News Journal paper and on ABC television news.

Annual Seniors Labor Day Cook-out

Each Labor Day since the early 1990s, the Congo family and staff have invited Seniors in the area to participate in our annual cook-out. The popular event, which first took place at the Congo residence, was relocated to larger facilities as the need to accommodate a larger group of seniors increased. Seniors from all of the 11 or 12 high rise apartments in Wilmington, as well as other seniors in the area who wish to attend, are invited to the event.  The Congos provide free transportation from each high rise apartment. Volunteers from the community are welcomed to assist in this event.

Annual Holiday Tribute to Loved Ones at Christmas

Every year, the Congo Funeral Home invites families that we have served over the years to join us in our annual Christmas Tribute to Loved Ones celebration. This is a spirit-filled service of remembrance to loved ones gone but  not forgotten. Our ministerial consultant gives words of encouragement and hope to those in attendance.  Each represented family is given a white dove, personalized with the name of their loved one, to place on our tree. Once the tree is adorned with all of the tribute doves, we perform a tree lighting ceremony, followed by Christmas carols and refreshments.

Youth Activities and Trips

For over 25 years, the Congo family has periodically organized trips for youth in our community to visit various theme parks, historic museums, and other places of educational interest. Our goal is to keep youth of our community involved in positive activities and to expose them to all ethnic cultures and their heritage in a positive nature.

Wilmington Community Cleanup Projects

We encourage members of our community to join us in making our city a cleaner, safer and better place to live. We have held cleanup projects in various parts of the inner city in which youth, parents, and residents are invited to participate. As a reward for their participation, the youth are later taken on a trip to a theme park sponsored by Congo Funeral Home and chaperoned by parents, staff and community volunteers.
