Alice Ruffin-Shy was born to the late Jerry Ruffin and Dicey Ruffin on August 28, 1923, in Jenkins County, GA.
She received her education from the Jenkins County School System.
She moved to Wilmington, DE in 1956, where she made it her home until she transitioned on October 8, 2017.
Alice worked as a housing engineer for many years and she loved cooking delicious home-cooked soul food meals.
She was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church for over forty years. She sang on the church choir and served as a Missionary and Trustee. She was also the Mother of the church.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Gordon Shy, her son Jerry Ruffin; her four brothers Sidney Jackson, Jerry Ruffin (Big), Curtis Ruffin (Buddy), and Joe Ruffin; and eight sisters, Blanche Rice, Mary Dunn, Chaney Houston, Ruby Burke, Hattie Mae Tarver, Maggie and Addie.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter Blanche White of Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren, Gerald A. Ruffin, James D. White, Tanya A. Robinson, Lisa Collins, Jerry McManus, and Serena Williams; nineteen great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Doris Ruffin; a host of great-great and great-great-great grandchildren. In addition, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
